In China, Your Looks Do Matter [Things I Will Never Understand]

Apparently the Getty Images caption for this photo is:

China, February 17: Prospective students are given a physical as part of their college entrance exam in Qingdao, Shandong province of China. College admissions in the U.S. suddenly seem a lot less stressful.

I can’t imagine what the point of this physical is besides to judge these applicants on their physique and attractiveness. A pure physical I can understand. You want to make sure you have healthy students. If they’re not healthy enough, you can make them take physical education and nutrition classes. But a pure physical is (in my opinion) recording the weight, running on the treadmill, checking heart rate. Instead these girls are put into bikinis, heels, numbered like beauty pageant contestants, and photographed.

Does this college specialize in the MRS degree?
