Week 1 Update: This Isn’t Going So Well [2011 Goals]

Goal 1: Lose 50 pounds.

I’m changing this. Not because I’m chickening out! No, no. It’s medically advised, you see. I told my psychiatrist about my goals and he pretty much called me insane when I said 50 pounds. Nicely but he meant it.

We don’t have a scale at home. The husband is against it because he thinks I’ll be obsessed with the scale and my weight and be on it every moment of the day. That, of course, is just silly. I would only be on it after every meal! So the only time I weigh myself is during my annual exam and trips to Costco, when I can hop on a display scale.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to Costco. I stepped on the digital scale. It said I was 180 pounds. 180! I thought that was kind of high but then… it was the holidays and I’d been eating a lot… and I was stressed… so I was eating even more… and I wasn’t working out. The number made sense. Sort of.

My psychiatrist made me get on the scale at his office after I told him my weight loss goal. He didn’t think that Costco scale was right and I thought, what the hell, I need an exact number for my calorie counter app anyway.

Obviously that Costco scale was wrong. And being 150 and losing 50 pounds is batshit insane. I’m 5’1 but my frame can’t take 100 pounds. I would be anorexic. So I’m adjusting my weight loss goal to 30 pounds. I was 120 when I was 16; 120 now shouldn’t be unhealthy, right?

Goal 2: Learn something new.

I don’t really plan on this one happening until August. Why August? That’s when the Fall semester starts at my local community college. I know I can learn something on my own, beforehand, but I’m already working on learning WordPress.

Oh, there you go!

Goal 3: Blog at least once a week, with the end goal of daily posts.

I’m actually doing pretty good on this one! Both Stuff About Cats and AmyNievera.Com have had more than one post in the last week. Pintucked only had one but I have some ideas for posting more often.

Respy and Buddy are so cute!

Goal 4: Have an ongoing emergency fund of at least $1,000 by the end of the year.

Every day, I put $2 into an envelope set aside for the emergency fund, a.k.a. cat fund. Right now we have $18. By the end of the year, I’ll have less than $1,000. This isn’t going to work very well – $2 a day plus $10 on the weekends seems better. Though $1,000 isn’t very much. I’d throw our tax refund in there too but the entirety of that is going towards my naturalization and our credit card bills.

How are you doing on your goals?
